Bulky Uplifts Glasgow

One awkward item or a full load of furniture, appliances and clutter. We carry it out, load it and make sure it is reused, recycled or disposed of properly, so it never comes back to you.

Bulky waste removal

Big, heavy and awkward items, handled

Some things will not fit in a wheelie bin or the boot of a car. A three-seater that has seen better days, a double bed and mattress, an American-style fridge freezer, a wardrobe that was built inside the room, or a stack of pallets behind a shop. A bulky uplift from Jettison deals with exactly that. Our crew comes to you, carries the items out from wherever they are, loads them onto the truck and takes them back to our depot in the east end of Glasgow for sorting.

We collect from houses, flats, offices, shops, workshops and building sites. That includes top floor tenement flats with narrow stairs, back gardens with no rear access, lofts and cellars, so you do not need to drag anything to the kerb first. You tell us what is going, we agree a price before we start, and all you have to do is point.

  • Single items, part loads or full truckloads
  • Items carried out from any room, floor, loft or garden
  • Homes, landlords, offices, shops and trade premises
  • Crews with the right kit and enough hands for heavy lifting
  • Usable items offered for reuse before anything is recycled
  • SEPA registered waste carrier, with paperwork for business customers
  • Price agreed up front from photos or a short description

What we take

What counts as a bulky uplift?

If it is too big, too heavy or too awkward to get rid of yourself, it is probably a bulky uplift. These are the items we collect most often and how we deal with each one.

Furniture and soft furnishings

Sofas, armchairs, beds, mattresses, wardrobes, chests of drawers, dining sets, bookcases and flat-pack furniture that will not survive another move. Upholstered seating that cannot be reused is kept separate and sent for incineration with energy recovery, because the foam and fabric can contain persistent organic pollutants that are not allowed to go to landfill. Our guide to mattress disposal covers beds in more detail.

White goods and electricals

Fridges, freezers, washing machines, tumble dryers, cookers, dishwashers, televisions and monitors. Electrical items fall under the WEEE regulations, and fridges and freezers need specialist treatment to recover the gases inside, so we take them to approved facilities rather than mixing them with general waste. See how to dispose of a fridge responsibly.

Office and shop fittings

Desks, office chairs, filing cabinets, boardroom tables, shelving, display units, counters and old signage. If you are emptying a whole floor rather than a few items, our office clearance service is a better fit, and we can add confidential waste and IT disposal to the same visit.

Trade and yard waste

Pallets, broken racking, redundant machinery, tools, packaging and offcuts that have built up in a yard, unit or storeroom. Cardboard can be flattened and collected separately for recycling, which our guide to cardboard waste collection explains.

Garden and outdoor items

Dismantled sheds, fence panels, decking boards, garden furniture, trampolines, hot tubs and barbecues. If the whole garden needs attention, our garden clearance service covers green waste as well as the bulky items, and our guide to old decking has more on timber.

The really awkward ones

Pianos, pool tables, multi-gyms, cast iron baths and safes all need extra planning and sometimes extra people. Tell us about them when you ask for a quote so we arrive with enough hands and the right equipment. Our piano guide explains what is involved in getting one down a Glasgow stair.

Questions

Bulky uplift FAQs

How is a bulky uplift priced?
It depends on what the items are, how many there are and how easy they are to reach. A single armchair from a ground floor flat is a very different job from a full load carried down four flights of stairs. Send us a list or a few photos and we will give you a fixed price before anything is booked, so there are no surprises on the day.
Do I need to bring the items outside?
No. Our crew collects from inside the property, whether that is an upstairs bedroom, a loft, a cellar or the back garden. Please do not leave items in a tenement close, a back court or on the pavement, as that can be treated as fly-tipping. Keep them indoors and we will do the carrying.
Can you take a sofa or an armchair?
Yes. If it still has its fire safety label and is in good condition, we look at reuse first. If not, upholstered seating is kept whole and separate from other waste and sent for incineration, as the rules on persistent organic pollutants require. Our guide on getting rid of an old sofa in Glasgow explains the options.
Can you collect from a business?
Yes. We regularly uplift office furniture, shop fittings, pallets and redundant equipment for businesses across Glasgow. Waste from a business is commercial waste, so we provide a waste transfer note for your duty of care records, and we can work early or late to avoid disrupting staff or customers.
Do I need to be there when you collect?
Not always. Many customers leave keys with a neighbour, a concierge or a letting agent, or leave the items in an unlocked garage or shed. Tell us what you are arranging and we will let you know when the job is done.
Is there anything you cannot take?
We do not collect asbestos, gas bottles, paint or chemicals in quantity, clinical waste or anything else classed as hazardous. If you are not sure about an item, ask when you request your quote and we will point you towards the right specialist.
