A server upgrade, an office move, a laptop refresh or a cupboard of dead PCs: sooner or later every Glasgow business ends up with IT it no longer uses, and each machine may still hold customer records, emails and saved passwords. We take the equipment away and deal with the storage inside it before anything is reused or recycled. Drives are wiped, and any drive that cannot be wiped, because it is faulty, damaged or simply too old, is physically destroyed. The rest of the hardware is sorted for reuse where possible and otherwise recycled under the WEEE rules. You get an up-front rate before we start, our team calls ahead on the day, and businesses receive waste transfer paperwork for their records.

What we take away

Desktop towers, laptops, servers and rack units, loose and external hard drives, phones, tablets, monitors, printers and copiers, switches, routers and the tangle of cables and power supplies that gathers behind every desk. We lift kit from desks, store cupboards and comms rooms, carry it down stairs and load it, so your own staff are not left doing it. Desks, chairs and other office waste can be cleared in the same visit if the whole space is being emptied.

The rules behind IT disposal

UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018 make your organisation responsible for personal data until it is properly destroyed, and that includes data sitting on an old drive in a storeroom. Separately, the duty of care says business waste must go to a registered carrier, with waste transfer notes kept for at least two years. Computers and screens are also waste electrical and electronic equipment, known as WEEE, so they cannot go out with general waste and must be treated and recycled properly.

Getting ready for collection

Back up anything you still need, decide which devices are definitely going and gather them in one room, with a list or asset register if you keep one. Sign out of accounts and remove the devices from any management or security software so nothing on your network expects them back. Then tell us about lifts, stairs, loading bays and parking near your building, especially in the city centre where on-street loading space is limited.

What affects the cost of IT disposal?
The main things are the amount of equipment, the mix of items, how many drives need to be destroyed rather than wiped, and access to where the kit is stored. A rack of servers in a basement takes more handling than a dozen laptops in a ground floor office. Send a list or some photos, or ask for a visit, and we will give you an up-front rate before collection day.
What happens to the data on our hard drives?
Drives are wiped before any equipment is reused or recycled. Where a drive is broken, too old or will not wipe for any other reason, it is physically destroyed instead, so the data cannot be read again. Only after that is the hardware sorted, with working parts reused where possible and the rest sent for recycling under WEEE rules.
Should we wipe the devices ourselves first?
You can, and many IT teams like to. Either way, back up anything you need, sign devices out of accounts and remove phones from any device management. Take SIM cards and memory cards out of phones, cameras and tablets, because they hold data too. Whatever state the drives are in when we collect them, they are still wiped or destroyed before anything goes on.
Do old monitors and printers count as WEEE?
Yes. Almost anything with a plug, a battery or a cable counts as waste electrical and electronic equipment and should not go in general waste. Glasgow residents can take household electricals to the recycling centres at Dawsholm, Polmadie or Shieldhall, but those sites do not accept business waste, so offices need a registered carrier like us.
Can you collect a couple of old laptops from my home?
Yes. We collect everything from a single item to a full office, so an old family PC, a box of laptops or a drawer of dead phones is no problem. Households get the same treatment as businesses: the drives are wiped or destroyed, then the equipment is reused or recycled. We can also take other unwanted items from the house on the same visit.
Do you collect IT outside Glasgow?
Yes. We regularly work across Lanarkshire, Renfrewshire and Dunbartonshire, and we collect from offices in Edinburgh, Stirling, Perth, Dundee and Aberdeen too. Jobs further from Glasgow are planned in advance, so let us know your move or refresh date early and we will fit the collection around it.
