Garage clearance in Glasgow

Getting your Glasgow garage back

Most garages in Glasgow sit beside the bungalows and semi-detached houses of areas such as Knightswood, Mosspark, King's Park, Croftfoot and Garrowhill, or with the newer houses in estates such as Robroyston, and plenty of flats come with a lock-up in a row nearby. Our depot is in the east end, close to Shettleston and the M8, so a garage in Baillieston or Mount Vernon is only a short drive, and the south side and the west end are an easy run across the city.

A garage clearance can be a few awkward things you have been meaning to shift, or a space packed to the roof after decades of storing everything that did not fit in the house. We send a uniformed team, load the lot, take shelving down if you want it gone and sweep the floor before we leave. You agree an up-front rate first, from photos or a visit, so there are no surprises when the door comes down.

  • Up-front rate agreed from photos or a visit before any work
  • Bikes, tools and good furniture picked out for reuse or charity
  • Shelving, workbenches and old units taken apart and removed
  • Fridges and freezers sent for proper electrical recycling
  • Tyres taken by arrangement, so mention them when you ask
  • Garage floor swept once the last load is on the truck
  • Lock-ups cleared even when you live elsewhere and leave keys
  • Loft and garden cleared too, see our guide

Local know-how

Clearing a garage in Glasgow

What gets loaded, where it ends up and what helps on the day.

What we load

Old sofas and wardrobes moved out of the house years ago, boxes of books and toys, bikes, lawnmowers, tools, workbenches, timber offcuts, car parts, old fridges and freezers, and the leftovers from DIY jobs that are not hazardous all go in the truck. Tyres are fine if you tell us about them first. We take shelving and units apart where needed and carry everything out ourselves, so you do not lift a thing.

Where it goes, and the rules

Everything comes back to our depot, where bikes, tools and furniture in good order are picked out for reuse or charity, and over 90% of what we collect is reused or recycled. Old fridges and other electricals go for proper treatment, and sofas are kept whole for POPs rules. If you would rather go yourself, Glasgow's centres are Dawsholm, Polmadie and Shieldhall, for city residents only, with vans allowed only at Dawsholm and Shieldhall at set times. Easter Queenslie in the east end has closed.

Before we arrive

Move the car out of the driveway if you can, so the truck can get close to the garage door, and let us know if an up-and-over door sticks or the lock-up is down a lane. Take out anything you want to keep and set aside paint tins, oil, fuel, gas bottles and chemicals, because we cannot take them. If the roof is old corrugated sheeting, mention it, as some garage roofs contain asbestos and we do not touch those.

How it works

Four simple steps

  1. 1

    Send a few photos

Snap the inside of the garage from the door and tell us about anything heavy, awkward or hazardous.

  2. 2

    Agree your rate

We give you an up-front rate based on the volume, the items and how easy the garage is to reach.

  3. 3

    We clear it

Our team calls ahead, empties the garage, dismantles shelving and loads everything onto the truck.

  4. 4

    Sorted at the depot

Back in the east end, the load is sorted so as much as possible is reused or recycled.

Questions

Garage clearance FAQs

How much does a garage clearance in Glasgow cost?
It depends on how much is in there, what it is and how easy it is to get to. A single garage with a few bulky items is a very different job from a double garage filled to the rafters. Send us photos or ask for a visit and we will give you an up-front rate before any work starts, so you know exactly where you stand.
Will you take old tyres?
Usually, yes, but please tell us about them when you ask for a quote, because tyres have to go to a specialist route rather than in with general waste. A couple of old car tyres is rarely a problem. If you have a lot of them, our guide on how to get rid of tyres explains the options and why tyres cannot simply go in a skip.
What can you not take from a garage?
We do not take paint tins that still have paint in them, engine oil, fuel, chemicals, weedkillers, gas bottles, batteries in bulk or anything containing asbestos. These need specialist disposal. Empty and dried-out paint tins are fine. If you are not sure about something, send us a photo and we will tell you before the day.
I am converting my garage into a room. Can you clear it first?
Yes. This is one of the most common reasons people call us. We empty the garage completely, take down old shelving and leave the floor swept, so your builder or joiner can start on a clear space. If you are keeping some tools or materials for the work, put them to one side and we will leave them alone.
Do I need to be at home when you come?
Not if the garage is easy for us to reach and we know exactly what is going. Plenty of customers leave a key with a neighbour or with us, especially for lock-ups that are some distance from home. We call ahead on the day, and we can send photos when the job is finished.
Can a bike or a set of tools go to someone else rather than the tip?
That is what we aim for. Anything in usable condition is picked out at our depot for reuse or charity, and bikes, hand tools, garden furniture and solid furniture often find a second home. Broken items and scrap are separated for recycling, which is how over 90% of what we collect avoids landfill.
