Getting a Paisley garden ready for its next chapter

Paisley straddles the White Cart Water immediately west of Glasgow, and our trucks reach it along the M8 from the east end depot. A good share of our garden work here comes when a home is changing hands. The Victorian villas of Castlehead and the conservation streets of Thornly Park sit on generous plots with mature hedges and old outbuildings, while post-war areas such as Foxbar, Glenburn and Gallowhill have family gardens that can go years without attention when an owner is elderly or unwell.

Before a valuation, a sale or the handover of a rented home, the garden often needs to be taken back to something manageable. We remove the overgrowth and the clutter: piles of hedge clippings in bags, sheds that are falling apart, collapsed fences, mossy decking, broken furniture, plant pots and children's play equipment. Felling and tree surgery are not part of what we do, but we will happily take the branches away once a tree surgeon has finished. Photos are enough for a rate, which you agree before we start.

  • Piles of hedge clippings, brambles and ivy bagged and removed
  • Collapsed fences and mossy decking boards taken away
  • Sheds emptied, dismantled and removed, roof permitting
  • Broken slabs and rubble removed in bags
  • Garden furniture, plant pots and play equipment cleared
  • Electric mowers and power tools recycled as WEEE
  • Gardens cleared ahead of a valuation, sale or handover

Local know-how

Clearing a neglected Paisley garden

What is involved when a long neglected garden has to be cleared in one go.

Years of growth in a single visit

When a garden has been left for several seasons, the volume surprises most people. Bramble, ivy and old prunings bulk out every bag, and there is usually a shed full of rusting tools and a heap of broken slabs behind it. Our crew works through it methodically, filling the truck in one visit rather than leaving you to make repeated car runs. Anything worth reusing, such as sound garden furniture or hand tools, is kept apart from the waste.

The Renfrewshire recycling centre rules

Renfrewshire Council's recycling centres admit cars only, with one exception: Linwood, where vans, pick-ups and trailers are allowed if you have applied for a permit in advance. Staff ask for photo ID and proof that you live in Renfrewshire, and only household waste is accepted. If you are settling a relative's estate from outside the council area, that rules you out entirely. Our loads go back to the Glasgow depot, and the green waste is sent for composting.

Villas, semis and conservation streets

In Castlehead and Thornly Park, gardens can be long and tiered, with steps, high walls and gravel drives, so we bring extra hands and plan the carrying route. Semi-detached homes in Ralston and Hunterhill usually have a side gate, which makes loading simple. Before we arrive, it helps to mark anything staying, such as a favourite planter or a bench, and to tell us if a buyer or estate agent has asked for anything specific.

How it works

Four simple steps

  1. 1

    Tell us the deadline

Let us know if there is a valuation, a home report visit or a sale date the garden needs to be ready for.

  2. 2

    Photos for a rate

A few photos of the garden, the shed and the access let us agree an up-front rate with you.

  3. 3

    Clearance day

The crew calls ahead, works through the garden, empties and dismantles the shed and loads the truck.

  4. 4

    Swept and handed back

Paths and patio are swept, the items you asked to keep stay put and the paperwork follows.

Questions

Paisley garden clearance questions

What decides the cost of clearing a garden in Paisley?
Three things: how much there is, what kind of material it is, and how hard it is to get out. Bags of light clippings are quicker to load than soil, rubble or a heavy timber shed, and a tiered villa garden takes longer than a level lawn with a side gate. We look at photos or visit, then give you a rate up front, so you know where you stand before we begin.
Can you clear the garden before a Paisley house goes on the market?
Yes, and it is one of the most common reasons people call us. A tidy, open garden photographs better and lets buyers see the space properly. We can clear the garden on its own or as part of a wider house clearance, working to the dates you give us, and we leave the paths and patio swept. If you are an executor, we can liaise with your solicitor and send the paperwork when the job is complete.
Could I take it all to the Linwood recycling centre in a van?
You could, but only with a van permit applied for in advance from Renfrewshire Council, plus photo ID and proof of a Renfrewshire address, and the load must be household waste. The other Renfrewshire centres take cars only. For a large garden, the number of trips soon adds up, which is why many people hand the whole job to us instead.
The shed is full of tools and junk. Will you take that too?
Yes. Shed contents are part of the job: lawnmowers, hand tools, bikes, hoses, plant pots, deckchairs and boxes of odds and ends. Electric mowers and power tools are kept separate as waste electrical equipment for proper recycling. What we cannot take is anything hazardous, so set aside half-used weedkiller, garden pesticides, paint tins, fuel cans and gas bottles from patio heaters, as these need a separate disposal route.
Do you also clear gardens in Elderslie, Linwood and Johnstone?
Yes. Our Paisley garden work extends across the surrounding part of Renfrewshire, including Elderslie, Linwood, Johnstone, Renfrew and Erskine. The service is the same wherever the property is: photos or a visit, an agreed rate, a uniformed crew who call ahead on the day, and a garden left clear and swept.
