Rubbish removal in Glasgow

Junk and rubbish removed in one visit

Glasgow is home ground. Our depot is on Eastmuir Street in the east end, close to Shettleston and the M8, so our trucks are already in the city when you call. We collect rubbish from tenement flats in Dennistoun, Partick and Govanhill, terraced and semi-detached houses in Knightswood, Carntyne and Cathcart, new build flats along the river and student lets around the West End, as well as from the north, south and east of the city.

Most Glasgow jobs start with a quick photo of the junk, after which we give you a rate before anything is lifted. The crew rings ahead on the day, carries items down the close or out from the back court, dismantles beds and wardrobes where needed and sweeps the area. Everything is driven a short way back to our depot, sorted for reuse, charity and recycling, and over 90% of what we collect avoids landfill.

  • Single items, part loads and full loads
  • Up-front rates agreed before any work starts
  • We do all the lifting and carrying
  • Garden, garage and loft rubbish taken too
  • We call ahead on the day so you know when to expect us
  • Over 90% of what we collect is reused or recycled
  • Registered waste carrier, so your rubbish is never fly-tipped
  • We do not remove asbestos or hazardous waste

Local know-how

Getting junk out of a Glasgow home

What to know before you get rid of rubbish in Glasgow, and why one visit from our team is often simpler than doing it yourself.

One crew instead of a borrowed van

Hiring or borrowing a van, finding a friend to help with the heavy end of a sofa and queueing at a recycling centre can swallow a whole Saturday, and that is if everything fits first time. Our team arrives with a truck sized for the job and carries it all out in one visit. You do not have to move anything into the street or down the stair before we arrive.

Doing it yourself

The city's household waste recycling centres are Dawsholm in the west, Polmadie on the south side and Shieldhall in the south west, and they are open to Glasgow residents only. A car can drive in without a booking, but a van is admitted only at Dawsholm and Shieldhall and only during set hours. With Easter Queenslie now closed, the east end has no centre of its own, so the nearest trip is a long one.

Closes, back courts and parking

Most junk in a Glasgow tenement has to come down a common stair with tight turns and no lift, and a lot of rubbish ends up in shared back courts after a flat is emptied. We work tidily on the stair, keep the close passable for neighbours and clear back court piles as well. Parking permits and controlled zones apply in many areas, so tell us about them and we will plan where the truck waits.

Questions

Glasgow junk removal FAQs

How much will it cost to have junk removed in Glasgow?
There is no fixed list price, because no two loads are the same. The rate depends on the amount of rubbish, what it consists of and how easy it is to reach, including stairs in a tenement or a long walk from the truck. Send us photos or book a visit and you will get an up-front rate before we start.
Can you take rubbish from a tenement back court?
Yes. Bags, broken furniture and old mattresses often pile up in shared back courts, especially after someone has moved out. Landlords, factors and residents ask us to clear them, and we take the lot away and leave the area swept. Let us know if the back court is locked so we can arrange access.
Do you take single items like a sofa or a mattress?
Yes. Single items are a large part of our Glasgow work. Sofas and other upholstered seating are kept whole and apart from the rest of the load so they can go for the treatment Scottish rules on persistent organic pollutants (POPs) require, and mattresses are sent on for recycling.
I am a landlord. Can you clear a flat at the end of a tenancy?
Yes. We remove unwanted furniture, rubbish and anything a tenant has left behind, so the flat is ready for cleaning or the next let. Many landlords and letting agents leave keys with us and do not attend. We call ahead on the day and leave paperwork once the job is complete.
Is there anything you cannot take?
We do not remove asbestos or hazardous waste, which includes paint, chemicals, fuel and gas bottles. Almost everything else in a normal home is fine, from furniture, beds and white goods to garden rubbish, DIY waste and bags of general junk.
Where does my rubbish go after you collect it?
It comes back to our depot in the east end of Glasgow, where it is sorted. Usable furniture goes for reuse or to charity, metals, wood, cardboard and electricals are separated for recycling, and over 90% of what we collect is reused or recycled. We are registered with SEPA as a waste carrier, so nothing is ever fly-tipped.
