House clearance in Rutherglen

Your local clearance team

Rutherglen is one of Scotland's oldest royal burghs, sitting immediately south-east of Glasgow on the opposite bank of the Clyde from our depot, which makes it an easy trip for our crews. Around Main Street and the town hall the streets are lined with sandstone tenements, while Burnside, Stonelaw, Fernhill and Blairbeth hold villas and semi-detached homes, and Cathkin sits below the Cathkin Braes on the southern edge of the town.

We handle family homes after a bereavement, flats being readied for sale and lets that need emptying between tenants. Once we have seen photos or visited, we agree an up-front rate with you. On the day our team calls ahead, then works through every room, cupboard and loft, taking furniture apart where it will not fit down the stair. The property is swept before we leave, and the load comes back to our depot to be sorted for reuse and recycling.

  • We call ahead on the day so you know when to expect us
  • Up-front rates agreed before any work starts
  • Friendly, uniformed and fully insured team
  • Furniture dismantled and carpets lifted
  • Sweep and tidy once the property is empty
  • Over 90% of what we collect is reused or recycled
  • Registered waste carrier, so your waste is handled legally
  • We do not remove asbestos or hazardous waste

Local know-how

Rutherglen clearances: what to expect

What to know before you clear a property in Rutherglen, and why most people find one visit from our team easier than doing it themselves.

Everything out in a single visit

Tenement clearances are hard work without help: every item comes down the common stair by hand, then has to fit in whatever car or van you have. Our crew works as a chain from the top landing to the truck parked by the close, so a whole flat is emptied in one visit, carpets and white goods included. You avoid repeated bookings and a sore back, and we take care of the sorting afterwards.

Doing it yourself

Rutherglen shares a recycling centre with Cambuslang, on Cambuslang Road at Eastfield, run by Biffa for South Lanarkshire Council. You cannot just turn up: each vehicle needs a booked slot, a quarter of an hour for a car and half an hour for a van, and you must show proof of a South Lanarkshire address. Renovation materials and anything produced by a tradesperson are refused, and gas bottles are not being accepted for now.

Tenements, villas and closes

Most of the flats around Main Street, Stonelaw and Bankhead are in traditional sandstone tenements with shared closes and back courts, and many have no lift. Burnside and Fernhill are known for larger villas, and Blairbeth, Cathkin and Spittal have plenty of post-war houses. If you let us know the floor, how tight the stair is and any parking restrictions near your close, we can bring the right number of hands for the job.

Questions

Rutherglen house clearance FAQs

How much will it cost to clear my flat in Rutherglen?
That depends on how full the flat is, the kind of items inside and the access, including which floor it is on and whether there is a lift. We give you an up-front rate after seeing photos or visiting, and we agree it with you before our team starts, so the cost is settled before a single item is moved.
Do you clear rental flats for landlords and letting agents?
Yes. We empty void flats and houses between lets, including furniture, mattresses and bags left behind by former tenants, so the property can be cleaned, repaired or marketed. As a SEPA registered waste carrier we handle everything legally, and you receive paperwork when the job is complete. Bear in mind that the council recycling centre at Eastfield is for residents only and refuses trade waste.
Can I take a van full of furniture to the Eastfield recycling centre?
Only with a booking. South Lanarkshire allows cars, vans up to 3.5 tonnes and trailers when a slot has been booked in advance, but tipper vehicles are turned away. You will need proof of address, and a van slot lasts 30 minutes, so you have to unload quickly. For a whole house, one visit from our team is usually far simpler.
How do you get furniture down a tenement stair?
Carefully and in pieces. Wardrobes, bed frames, dining tables and units are dismantled in the flat so they can be carried down the close without scraping walls or banisters. Two or more of the team handle heavy items such as washing machines and fridge freezers, and we tidy the landings and the close on our way out.
Can you clear a house in Burnside or Cathkin after a death?
Yes. We clear houses for families and for solicitors acting in an executry, and we are happy to work around the timescale of the estate. Anything you want to keep is set aside, and personal papers, photographs, jewellery or cash we find are handed back to you rather than thrown away. Nothing leaves the house until you have agreed what is going.
