House Clearance Johnstone

Johnstone homes cleared from top to bottom, whether it is a flat near Houstoun Square, a family house in Thorn or a bungalow out in Kilbarchan or Elderslie, with the rate settled before we start.

House clearance in Johnstone

Your local clearance team

Johnstone sits on the Black Cart Water three miles west of Paisley and about twelve miles from Glasgow, and our crews reach it along the M8 and the A737. It began as a planned mill town laid out around Houstoun Square and Ludovic Square, then spread into estates such as Spateston, Thorn, Johnstone Castle and Cochrane Castle. We clear homes in all of them, and in the villages round about, including Elderslie, Kilbarchan, Howwood and Linwood.

Every clearance starts with a conversation and a few photos, or a visit if that is easier. You get an up-front rate, then a date that suits you. On the day the team rings before arriving, takes down beds and units, pulls up carpets and loads the truck room by room, finishing with a sweep. If someone has died, we work gently and keep aside anything the family wants. The contents come back to our Glasgow depot, and over 90% of the load is reused or recycled.

  • We call ahead on the day so you know when to expect us
  • Up-front rates agreed before any work starts
  • Friendly, uniformed and fully insured team
  • Furniture dismantled and carpets lifted
  • Sweep and tidy once the property is empty
  • Over 90% of what we collect is reused or recycled
  • Registered waste carrier, so your waste is handled legally
  • We do not remove asbestos or hazardous waste

Local know-how

Practical points for a Johnstone clearance

What to know before you clear a property in Johnstone, and why most people find one visit from our team easier than doing it themselves.

No convoy of car boots

Renfrewshire's cars-only rule means a Johnstone house cleared by hand turns into a long series of short trips, each one limited by what fits in the boot. We take the opposite approach: one crew, one truck and one visit, with sofas, mattresses, white goods, loft boxes and garden clutter all leaving together. You are left with empty rooms rather than a list of things still to move, and nobody in the family has to strain their back on the stairs.

Doing it yourself

Johnstone has its own council recycling centre on Miller Street, but like every Renfrewshire site except Linwood it accepts cars only. A van, pick-up or trailer has to go to Linwood instead, and only with a permit you apply for beforehand. At the gate you must show proof that you live in Renfrewshire, such as a council tax or utility bill, together with photo ID, and only household waste is accepted. The sites open from 8am to 6pm, seven days a week.

Old squares and newer estates

The centre of Johnstone keeps its planned streets of older stone buildings, with flats above shops and up shared stairs around Houstoun Square. Further out, Spateston, Thorn, Johnstone Castle and Cochrane Castle are mainly later housing estates, while Milliken Park and the nearby villages have more semi-detached and detached houses with garages. Tell us the address, the floor and where a truck can pull in, and we will plan the job around it.

Questions

Johnstone house clearance FAQs

How much will my Johnstone clearance cost?
There is no set fee, because it depends on how much is in the property, what kind of items they are and the access, from a top floor flat with no lift to a bungalow with a driveway. Send pictures or have us call round, and we will give you an up-front rate before any work begins, so you know where you stand from the outset.
Can I take a van to the Miller Street recycling centre?
No. The Johnstone centre on Miller Street is cars only, as are all of Renfrewshire's sites apart from Linwood. Vans, pick-ups and trailers are let in at Linwood only with a permit arranged in advance, and you will still need proof of address and photo ID. Our crew avoids all of that by clearing the house in one visit.
Do you cover Kilbarchan, Howwood and Bridge of Weir?
Yes. Alongside Johnstone itself we work in Elderslie, Kilbarchan, Howwood, Linwood, Brookfield, Houston and Bridge of Weir, and we cover Paisley, Renfrew and Erskine as well. Give us the dates that work for you and we will plan the visit around them.
Will you take everything, including the shed?
Very nearly. Furniture, beds, mattresses, white goods, carpets, clothes, books, loft and garage contents and garden waste all go, and we can take down an old shed and remove rotten fence panels. We cannot take asbestos or hazardous items such as paint, chemicals, gas bottles or fuel, so set those aside and we will work around them.
I live away from Johnstone. Do I need to be there?
No. Many of the people we work for are executors or relatives living elsewhere. You can leave keys with us or a neighbour, agree everything from photos and let us get on with it. We put aside anything you want kept, return any documents, photographs, jewellery or cash we find, and leave paperwork once the house is clear.
